Cydcoed evaluation project (Apr 27, 2010)

Forest Research’s social and environmental research group is helping to evaluate progress of a £16 million grant programme run by Forestry Commission Wales. Funded by the European Union and Forestry Commission Wales, the programme, called Cydcoed (pronounced ‘Keed Koyd’), focuses on the Objective One region of West Wales and the Valleys. Cydcoed has been helping community groups influence the decisions made about their local area, as well as maximising the long-term social, economic and environmental benefits of woods, and helping individuals to play a positive role in their community.

The Phase 1 project awarded grants totalling £3,986,295 to 40 individual projects. Phase 2, which has been underway since 2003, has provided a further £12 million, for 123 new projects.

LTDG Scheme project evaluation (Apr 27, 2010)

The evaluation of projects is an integral part of the Learning and Teaching Development Grant scheme. The aim of the scheme is not only to improve learning and teaching in your immediate local context, but also to promote a deeper understanding of learning and teaching at the University of Sheffield more widely, in order to further the aims of the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy. The aim of project evaluation is therefore to gain an insight into the impact of your project, in particular how it has influenced the learning and teaching experience of students and staff involved.

This knowledge is exchanged with other departments to improve learning and teaching across the University. The project evaluation is not an audit activity.

Support for project evaluation is available from Learning and Teaching Services (l.desforges@sheffield.ac.uk). Project leaders may make use of this support or undertake project evaluations independently. The resources developed here are intended to help you if you are undertaking an independent evaluation, in particular the resources about impact evaluation, which is the approach that has been endorsed by the LTDG Panel and its Monitoring and Advisory Group (MAG) for LTDG project evaluation.

This course will provide you with creative examples and useful case studies in order to prepare you for thorough and inclusive evaluations”.

Assessing Impact & Evaluating Programmes & Projects (Apr 27, 2010)

Governments and donors expect practical solutions from sponsored programmes and projects with clear deliverable outcomes. Contractors must define and indicate how performance will be measured, making the use of a quality management system a necessity.

This course will examine project and programme evaluation and impact assessment. It will explore its theory and practice in relation to the strategic planning process used in programme and project design.

It will build on the monitoring techniques learned in the Monitoring & Managing Programmes and projects course and contrasts with the requirements of an evaluation system.

This course will provide a comprehensive grounding in a wide range of practical and theoretical issues surrounding evaluation.
